President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

A Vision for Energy Independence

In November 2023, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) as a major intervention to close Nigeria's significant electricity metering gap.

The PMI has since evolved into a Federation-funded initiative, with the Federal, State, and Local Governments working together to accelerate meter deployment and address related challenges in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.

Beyond closing the metering gap, the PMI is supporting the development of a stronger metering ecosystem and improving revenue assurance across the sector. These efforts are expected to promote greater efficiency, reliability, transparency, and investment confidence in Nigeria's power sector, while supporting more accurate and accountable electricity access for customers.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum provides strategic leadership and coordination for stakeholders in the Federation and serves as the Chairman of the Board of the PMI.
